Ok, saw Star Trek again! It's so much fun but so different. First off, Nero is not dead. He obviously escaped into the black hole and will be back (hopefully) to stir up trouble later. Nero is the new Khan after all. I was hoping he would win but you know how Hollywood is. The cast was great. I hated Chekhov's accent, I like the actor though, especially what ive seen of him in the Terminator Salvation clips. Spock was amazing, I love how his story was given more weight than Kirk's. Sulu was just Sulu, he didnt really stand out except for when he was kicking Romulan butt. I hope he gets more to do next time. Scotty was fantastic and his sidekick was hilarious, both underused, I would watch a movie with just them. Bones was my favorite. He was like the bridge to the old Trek which I still love. Uhura was great too and I liked her relationship with Spock, even though I felt it was awkward to see Spock getting it on. Now Kirk I did not like as much. He started off as a selfish jerk, stayed a jerk through most of the movie then got permission to be a total ass from the old Spock. He didnt become decent until he got command, which reminded me of a kid throwing a tantrum and only behaving after the parent relents. I didnt hate him, just liked him least. I read the Countdown comic series beforehand which was great. It allowed the movie to flow naturally rather than be confusing until the shoddy explanation later on. Things I didnt like were the Orion girl's green skin. It looked like a bad makeup job enhanced by even worse CGI. She never looked real to me, which is sad cause everyone knows green chicks are hot. Spock ejecting Kirk from the Enterprise was a bit much considering he could have just thrown him into the brig. And then for Kirk to miraculously land on the same planet both Spock Prime and Scotty are on was a bit much. I also didnt like the dichotomy of the futuristic bridge and antiquated sections of the Enterprise. The bridge looked like Apple designed it, all sleek and brightly delicate, while other parts of the ship looked like the interior of the Titanic. And the destruction of Vulcan, why was that necessary? Vulcan is an important location in trek lore. I knew I was a nerd when that scene made me consider what effect it will be on Star Trek Online.
Haven't seen you around in a while, been busy?
